Day 1
For the first tour in 2018 we picked a relatively easy hike although with about 15km of walking distance, it can be a long tour. We moved with the train in the direction of Appenzell until we reached Wasserauen where we got off. We then followed the route via Gross Hütten and passing Seealpsee until we reached Ebenalp where we would stay for the night.
Of course we couldn’t resist watching the SWE-GER match on our handys.
Day 2
Starting at 6am we then started the long hike to Altmann and Säntis which where always at the tip of our nose. The path is nicely done passing Schäfler and Steckenberg, where we then walked down to the Mesmer mountain hut. From there we passed the Agateplatte to reach Meglisalp where we had a 30 minutes rest , having some coffee and watching the busy crowd preparing themselves for the day.
From there we then started ascending via Spitzigstein to the Rotsteinpass. After walking on normal trails until then we looked forward to some more technical hiking. That being said the path up to Altmann is very nicely secured and therefore a rather simple hike until Altmannsattel where we have been welcomed by a horde of capricorns, resting all around us. Reaching Altmannsattel, it is a small climb until reaching the summit of Altmann. Due to the wonderful conditions we could stay for nearly an hour, eating our lunch and enjoy the beautiful view.
Just right before the fog came in, we made our last couple a metres back again to the Rotsteinpass and up to Säntis. This route is also very nicely secured and therefore rather simple to hike.
